Users to Customers

Sep 29, 2006, by FredDixon

Great software always has a loyal user community who become long-time users and advocates.

Great software companies also have customers who use their software in very measurable ways. For our customers, these measurable ‘corporate benefits’ usually boil down saving costs and increasing revenues.

While it’s not always visible to our users, Serence builds and licenses customized versions of KlipFolio. These adaptations, called KlipFolio Branded , makes visible our customer’s brand, content, and value on the desktop, from startup to shutdown. In-turn, their users have a stronger relationship with that company and visit their site more frequently; helping them save costs, and increase revenues.

The neat thing is, and reason we are sharing this with you, is that all of our successful customers started out being KlipFolio users first. The folks at Staples, Intel, and Comcast all started out using KlipFolio as end-users first – and then came to being customers. So, as you’ve already noticed, we’re increasing awareness of KlipFolio Branded through placing banners on klipfolio.com.

Happy users are our best advocates. If you work somewhere that could benefit from KlipFolio Branded , let us know. Click on one of the banners and find our more.

New Developer Section

Sep 22, 2006, by awille

As mentioned last week, we've been cranking on a Dev Section overhaul. The coolest addition is a Cookbook, a collection of short how-to code examples. It's the cut-and-paste programmer's dream come true. Currently there are only three lonely "recipes" listed, but it's open to your input also. If there is a bit of code that you think other developers should know about, get it up there!

Also new are Dev Section Articles. More in-depth than Cookbook items, these will focus more on cool stuff we are doing at Serence, the most important things you should know about KlipFolio or Klips or best-practices when developing Klips. The first article up there right now, 10 Things to Look for When Testing your Klip, is a good read for any Klip developer.

One last small announcement, we've released a small update to KlipFolio that fixes some image downloading issues. Here are the release notes for KlipFolio 3.1, build 25.

Have a great weekend everyone!

The Latest Site Tweaks

Sep 15, 2006, by awille

What's nice about web-based development is that it's a relatively short design/build/release cycle. It allows for continuous improvements, and this week is no exception.

In case you missed the announcement in the forum, we've improved KlipFolio.com searching. You can now easily specify whether you wish to look for Klips or look for textual content, such as in our development guide, support section, or any other place for that matter on the site. Behind the scenes we've also spent a little bit of time making sure that search terms such as "lang file" jump you to the proper location as efficiently as possible. Let us know if there are searches that don't pull up the expected results.

As a bonus for Firefox users, we've released a Firefox search plug-in to make it easy to search for Klips right from your browser. It's located on all search results pages on KlipFolio.com, on the right-hand side.

Also, as with most other sections at KlipFolio.com, if you are a developer reading our Developer Guide (which makes for excellent bedtime reading ;-), we've added the ability to comment on each page. So, if you find errors, have questions or thoughts, please share them with us and the rest of the community. As a note, expect a significant overhaul of the developer section very soon (it's needed some TLC for a long time).

Just some Klip announcements to finish things up. We released a YouTube Klip , a To Do List Klip and today an update to the New Klips Klip which now has the language filter back.

OK ... more cool stuff next week (a few crazy tech demo Klips coming your way).

Weekly Wrap-Up

Sep 01, 2006, by awille

September always feels like the summer is coming to a close - even though it's a beautiful day outside and we are still a few weeks away from anything looking remotely like fall. Also, September usually brings with it a new wave of activity, and today was certainly no exception.

So, I'll give you a quick run-down:
Most importantly, we released an update to KlipFolio 3.1. Build 24 has a few niceties added and fixes a few image and tooltip related bugs. You can see the release notes here.

Then, we've been building Klips like crazy. Check out the new Gmail Klip, a new NikonCafe Photo Galleries Klip, and we helped Digital Trends and Mr.Swing launch Klips also. There are a bunch of new Klips we are finishing off for next week also, so stay tuned.

Then, on the business side of things, and because we need to pay the bills too, the phones have been off-the-hook with customers and new prospects coming back to life after the summer holidays. Not that I'm complaining, this is all good stuff.

It's a good thing we have a long weekend coming up (in Canada).

Have a great long, or short weekend.

Allan
