Social Media Metrics
The most important Social Media metrics and KPIs. Learn about what metrics and KPIs are best for you, vote, and contribute your own.
Post Shares
Post Shares is the total number of times a post was shared on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Pinterest. A Post Share increases visibility and reach of a post. It is a useful metric to gauge audience interest in the post content.
Profile Views
Profile Views counts the total number of views a social media profile has received from unique accounts over a specific period of time. Each time a unique account views a profile, it increases the Profile Views count for that profile, even if the same account views the profile multiple times.
Retweets
Retweets is the total number of people who click the retweet button under your tweet. When retweeted, your tweet is posted to that user’s timeline, increasing the reach of your tweet. Retweets are specific to Twitter, however other services such as LinkedIn and Facebook enable sharing and reposting.
Subscribers Gained
The Subscribers Gained metric measures the number of new subscribers added to a YouTube channel and helps track your channel's growth over time.
Video Comments
A video comment is a primarily text-based form of engagement on a social media platform where users respond to videos via the comment feature on videos. The number of comments on a video is one indication of the level of engagement users have with that video.
Video Completions
A Video Completion refers to the number of times a video plays to the end.
Video Dislikes
The Video Dislikes metric shows how many unique user accounts reacted by clicking on the "Dislike" button on a YouTube video. The total number of Dislikes on your video can be an indicator of the audience's attitude towards the video.
Video Likes
Video Likes are a measure of the popularity of video posts on social media platforms. This metric counts the number of likes a video has received from social media users and can be used to gauge the engagement rate of a video or group of videos.
Video Starts
A Video Start refers to the number of times a video starts to play.
Video View Through Rate
Video View Through Rate refers to the rate at which Video Views are initiated relative to the number of opportunities there were to consume the video content (video/thumbnail impressions). It is important to note that because the Video View metric definition varies across platforms, the Video View Through Rate baseline or benchmark may vary between platforms as well.
Video Views
Video Views is a count of the number of times a video is watched. It can also be used to count the number of times a video is started.
Video Watch Time
Video Watch Time is a measurement of how much total time has been spent watching a video (or a collection of videos). This metric helps evaluate the overall quality and stickiness of your content by looking at which videos are being watched as opposed to being abandoned after a few seconds.
