Release Preview - Managing groups and sharing assets
We spend quite a bit of time on the KlipBlog talking about the importance of designing effective dashboards, but not as much time on an equally important subject: distributing and sharing dashboards. The old adage about a tree falling in the forest with no one around applies to dashboards -- if no one sees your dashboard, then all the great insight and information you've put on that dashboard is for nothing.
The next release of Klipfolio Dashboard is just around the corner, and with it comes some important changes to the way you manage groups, users, and assets like Klips, tabs, and data sources. These changes are all made with one goal in mind: to make it easier for you to share insights with your colleagues.
Without further ado, let's take a look at some of the changes coming soon to a real-time dashboard near you!
User & Group Management
Groups form the basis of Klipfolio Dashboard's sharing and permissions model. Individual users are assigned to a group and get access to the same resources as others in the group. This makes it easy to share insights with multiple users quickly, without having to individually single people out.
Since groups are such an important part of sharing insights, we're making sure that you can do a lot more with the groups you create and manage. Each group will now have multiple options available from its properties page to help you edit groups, share assets with groups, and manage users associated with a group.
Managing Group membership
Group members are now displayed on a separate page making it easier to add/remove/edit individual users. To view specific information about a user, just click on their name.
One of the coolest things you can do for your users is set up "default tabs" so that when they first sign in their dashboard, it's already populated with insights and widgets. This release makes it much easier to share tabs with groups by allowing you to pick tabs directly from your library. If the tab has Klips on it not already shared with this group, it's easy to share those resources within the workflow.
It is now easier to see information associated with a user such as general info, what groups they belong to, and user properties.
Mass Sharing in Library
This release introduces the ability to mass share assets (Klips, tabs, data sources) directly from the Library. To share an asset, all you need to do is tick the asset's checkbox, click "Share", and select the group(s) you want to share the asset with.
We're adding 3 new functions in this release: simple moving average, cumulative moving average, and exponential moving average. These functions are ideal for "smoothing" out data sets to help show the trends behind the fluctuations. Here's a chart I put together using the exact same data set, but utilizing each of these functions (while showing the raw data).
