Manually pulling database queries for every report request wastes hours your team doesn't have. Connect Microsoft SQL Server to Klipfolio Klips and turn those queries into live dashboards that update automatically and share themselves.
How to connect MSSQL to Klipfolio
Klipfolio connects directly to Microsoft SQL Server using a JDBC driver. You'll need your database host, port, credentials, and a SQL query ready before you start.
- Click Data Sources in the left navigation bar (or go to Account Name > Data Sources at the bottom of the sidebar).
- Click Create a New Data Source and select SQL Query.
- Fill in the connection fields: Host, Port, Database, Driver (select MS SQL), Username, Password, and SQL Query.
- Choose whether to Include column headers.
- Under Connection security, select Use SSL/TLS if required. Optionally enable TLS v1.2 or turn off certificate validation (not recommended).
- If your database is behind a firewall, click Use an SSH tunnel and enter the required credentials.
- Click Get data and save your data source.
Before connecting, add Klipfolio's IP addresses to your database allow list. If you're connecting through Amazon Aurora (AWS), add those same IP addresses to your DB security group.

Top reasons to use Klipfolio for MSSQL dashboards
There's a gap between running a query and turning that data into something your whole team can act on. Klipfolio closes it.
Automated refreshes eliminate manual reporting. Set your MSSQL data to refresh anywhere from every minute to every 24 hours. Your dashboard stays current without anyone rerunning queries.
Custom visualizations make database data readable. Choose from 30+ chart types, including bullet charts and scatter plots, or inject custom HTML for fully tailored layouts. Your data, presented your way.
Formula-based calculations go beyond raw queries. Use the Klipfolio formula bar to run calculations, join datasets, or combine MSSQL with data from other sources, all in one view.
Flexible sharing means fewer ad hoc requests. Distribute dashboards via automated email, public links, embedded views, or TV mode. When everyone can see the data, the one-off requests stop.
Broad SQL driver support keeps your stack covered. Beyond MS SQL Server, Klipfolio supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB2, and more, so one platform handles your entire database reporting layer.
What Klipfolio adds to your existing MSSQL workflow
| What you do in MSSQL | What Klipfolio adds |
|---|---|
| Write and run queries manually | Automated data retrieval on a schedule you set |
| Export results to a spreadsheet | Live dashboards that update without exports |
| Share query outputs file by file | Centralized dashboards distributed across your whole team |
| Monitor one dataset at a time | Combined views across MSSQL and 100+ other data sources |
Stop running the same queries on repeat. Start sharing dashboards that update themselves.
